I enjoy every moment of co-directing SLFS with my colleague Jane Looker. You might also say that I love initiating ideas for our staff and client social activities as I do believe that social connectedness (away from a screen), is important for building strong communities.
I am a mother of 3 adult children who have recently left the nest to pursue their various careers. Albany has been home to me for eleven years, during which time I embarked on a career change into the world of financial planning. Prior to moving to Albany, I lived rurally in Ongerup/Borden where I spent my time balancing raising a family, nursing and farming.
I aim to help our clients feel comfortable when discussing their financial future and to empower them to help get results. I am a member of the FPA and provide highly professional and personable advice to my clients in and above the requirements of the FPA.
I love being part of the Sound Life team. I think it’s my passion for helping people which has led me down this path, having spent almost 20 years lecturing in Business and Accounting at South Regional TAFE.
I moved to beautiful Albany as a young adult in 1983. My husband Warren and I live on a small semi-rural property in Robinson Estate. Family is really important to me. I love to sew and my mum, sisters, nieces and friends gather regularly to chat and sew. I also love the bush and walking the trails around Albany is something Warren and I look forward to.
Sound Life provides a personalised service. We find that people in general don’t talk about money or their finances. To be able to come in and chat with someone about their situation, their future hopes and dreams and to know what is and isn’t achievable can be a great relief for most of our clients.
For me it’s still about helping people and that’s what we do really well at Sound Life.
I have been working in the financial services industry for the better part of 15 years after completing an Advanced Diploma in Accounting and a Diploma of Business.
I am a proud mum of 2 children and wife to a local Data/communications business owner. We have called Albany home for almost 20 years and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
I joined Sound Life Financial Services in 2014 and quickly recognised I was working for two very professional women who have a strong desire to help people and a determination to provide our clients with comprehensive and personalised advice.
I love being part of the Sound Life team and enjoy supporting Jane and Thelma to help our clients achieve their financial and lifelong goals.
I have recently joined Sound Life Financial Services, having moved back to the country from Perth where I completed my Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Finance and Management at Curtin University.
Whilst studying, I operated a small gardening and lawn mowing business where I gathered an understanding of the financial maze and challenges that small businesses may face. This has spurred my passion for helping small business owners, in particular, younger people who are "giving it a crack" in small business.
A passionate sports enthusiast, in particular, a footy supporter, I've also done my fair share of travelling and have an appreciation of how other countries and their culture work together.
I grew up on the outskirts of London and aged 19 decided to try my hand at backpacking Australia. After a year travelling the country I found our Amazing Albany and the rest they say is history!
Having always worked in the customer service industry, helping people is a passion of mine. Although I am new to Financial Planning, a previous banking role I was in for 4 years has set me up to slot into the team nicely!
I feel very fortunate to have found colleagues and employers who have the same passions and ethics as I do which makes me excited about sharing this journey at Sound Life.
I've grown up in Albany and have always loved living here. Having spent my gap year in 2007 working and travelling through Europe, I moved to Perth to begin a science degree at UWA but soon realised that Albany was where I wanted to be. I continued to study part-time at the UWA Albany campus while working at the town library.
I decided to put my studies on hold in 2012 to make the move into the travel industry where I worked for three and a half years as a travel agent.
It was in 2016 that I became part of the Sound Life team and I love working with a group of people who are so passionate about helping others to recognise and achieve their goals.
I guess you could say I'm the 'newest' member of the Sound Life team!
I came on board last year after spending four years raising our two beautiful children with my husband.
Albany has always been home, except for 3 years when my husband and I travelled around Australia before settling in Karratha.
Having a background in Accounts, Financial Planning is an area that I'm keen to explore. I'm learning so many new things and I love working with a fantastic team of like-minded people.
In 2015, my husband and I decided we needed a sea change and immigrated to Australia from the UK, by chance we came to Albany where we fell in love with the town and decided to make it our home.
We spend most of our weekends renovating ourhoe, getting creative in the kitchen or taking in the beautiful coast line with our four legged companions.
After 15 years in Accounting and Payroll, Financial Planning has been a welcome change for me. I'm happy to have found a company that not only promotes strong values but lives by them too.
I've been working part-time at Sound Life for almost 5 years now in the area of account management and budgeting and enjoy being part of the team!
My two children are now young adults and increasingly more independent with my son away at uni and my daughter in her final year of school. This means my husband and I are now moving into a new stage of our lives where we have more time to think about our goals, future aspirations and planning for retirement.
When I'm not at the Sound Life office you will find me either at the Great Southern TAFE as a lecturer, assisting my husband in managing our own business or volunteering and competing at the Albany Surf Life Saving Club.
"My partner and I had super accounts and investment accounts, we were unsure of what they were actually invested in. At Sound Life we had that all explained to us and also what types of investment would be best suited to us and our super funds. We also had the different types of personal insurances explained to us and now we are comfortable with the fact that if anything happened to either of us, the other will be financially secure. We thought that we would never be in a position to do this type of planning, but we have with the help from the team at Sound Life."
~ Graeme, Albany WA
"My husband and I were becoming increasingly worried about how disorganised our financial situation had become. Having had many jobs over the years, we each had at least four or more superannuation accounts and were paying more fees than we needed to. Neither of us had sufficient life insurance, and we were going nowhere fast when it came to securing our financial future. Frustrated with our situation, we contacted Sound Life Financial Services and booked a consultation with Thelma Jaekel. We had never been to a Financial Planner before and didn't know what to expect. Thelma explained every step in developing our Financial Plan and guided us the whole way. She formulated our plan, which involved consolidating all of our Superannuation into single accounts, implementing Super co-contributions, and setting up Life, Trauma and Income Protection Insurance Policies to protect our family should the worst happen. We now have total peace of mind about our future financial security. Thelma's dedication and personalised service has been fantastic and we know that if we ever have a concern or need advice about money matters, we can give her a call. Cheers."
"Sound Life are open, honest and are highly ethical, which gives you, the investor, total confidence in the choices that you make together. I have been more than happy with their services for the past 5 years and the returns on my portfolio."
